Over the past week we have been messaging everyone about two important meetings that have occurred. The PAID Board meeting on September 15, 2025, and the City Council meeting on September 17, 2025. Both meetings were related to the approval of the self-dissolution of PAID by the Board earlier this year, after overwhelming support for this initiative by Plantation Acres residents.

Residents have been working diligently to bring a process forward to the Broward Legislative Delegation and the Florida Legislature, towards the ultimate goal of allowing Plantation Acres resident electors to vote on this initiative at the ballot box.

If residents would ultimately vote for the dissolution of PAID, then the City of Plantation would be required to provide the services for us since our neighborhood is within Plantation’s jurisdictional boundaries.

During the PAID Board meeting, an unexpected turn of events resulted with the Board reversing their previous approval of the self-dissolution. The decision of the Board derailed the process and took away our right to decide this at the ballot box.

During the City Council meeting, Councilmembers agreed to allow residents to speak on this issue, although the PAID Board’s decision completely altered the context of the hearing. They made some recommendations for the PAID Board and reconvene this discussion at a later date.

The OVERWHELMING majority of residents that spoke before City Council, and many more who participated to comment via the digital platform, were asking to be allowed a process to vote on who should provide flood control and water management services to Plantation Acres residents.

Our voices were clearly heard by City Council and resonated louder with the PAID Board. The Board has agreed to reconvene on September 25 at 6PM and conduct public hearings on the self-dissolution and recommendations by City Council.
